Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey and Chief Minister N Biren Singh extended greetings and well wishes to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Cheiraoba of the Hindu Meitei community, which falls on April 13.
In her message, Anusuiya Uikey stated that the festival which symbolises the coming of a new year is celebrated by every household with great enthusiasm and gaiety. The festival represents the change of guards, where the old gives way to the new and with the arrival of spring which makes the landscape green and rekindles hopes for a better life, she mentioned.
On this propitious day, let us all rededicate to strive towards the goal of bringing peace, prosperity and progress in every household of the state, she added.
The chief minister in his message stated that Cheiraoba festival is a celebration of the new year with family feasts, offering to god, sharing of food with neighbours and giving of gifts by women folk to brothers, uncles and fathers.
The climbing of hills and hillocks in the afternoon symbolises the overcoming of obstacles and hurdles in the coming year, he maintained. The people also rejoice with the traditional ‘Thabal Chongba’ in the evening, he mentioned.
Let the ‘Ching Kaba’ of the year’s Cheiraoba symbolise the successful overcoming of the obstacles and challenges faced by Manipur, he added.
