Manipur: Bunkers destroyed, arms seized

Two cadres of proscribed outfit PREPAK (Pro) were arrested.

The Police Control Room,  Manipur Police on Thursday stated that during the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was under control, while search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

During the search operations, six single barrel gun, 108 12 Bore cartridges, one 12 Bore empty cartridge, four walkie talkie radio with charger, seven bullet proof (without BP plate), two cartridge belts and two carry bags from Seijang village, Jiribam district, a release stated. Twelve bunkers were also destroyed in the operation, it stated.

Earlier on Tuesday, security forces arrested two cadres of proscribed outfit PREPAK (Pro) identified as Naoroibam Joyshangker alias Loyumba, 39, and Thingom Suresh alias Boy, 38, from Lairikyengbam Leikai and Khurai Chaithabi Leirak, Imphal East.

From their possession, two 9mm Pistol with two magazines, one 32 Pistol with one Magazine, six live Ammunition and nine blank cartridges.

On Wednesday, security Forces arrested one self-styled sergeant major of the proscribed KCP (Noyon),  namely Thoudam Nanao Singh alias Chingsanglakpa ,43,from Waithou area, Thoubal district.

From his possession one .32 Pistol along with magazine and six live

rounds were recovered. Security Forces also arrested one Nangzading ,27, from Suangdai in Churachandpur district.  From his possession, 50 soap cases containing suspected Brown Sugar were recovered.

It mentioned that Movement of 135 and 257 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it stated.

A total of 128 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 106 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

It appealed to the general public not to believe in rumors and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumor free number 9233522822 of the Central Control room, it said. It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
