Manipur: Bomb found in Kakching

Manipur Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted a search operation in Imphal East district following reports that suspected Kuki militants had shelled four bombs in the area.

Miscreants left a powerful hand grenade at Sora market under Kakching Police Station in Kakching District on Friday.

The grenade was found by shopkeepers concealed in a black polythene, as per sources.

The grenade was diffused and safely retrieved by a commando team of Kakching police at 11 am. T

he motive behind the bomb threat is yet to be ascertained.

Manipur Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted a search operation at Thamnapokpi Loukol under Yaingangpokpi Police Station in Imphal East district on Friday around 12.15 pm, following reports that suspected Kuki militants had shelled four bombs in the area.

As per sources, three of the bombs did not explode, while one bomb exploded without inflicting human casualties.

Following a request of the villagers, the team conducted combing operations at the area in and around the area at 1:45 pm to safely retrieve the unexploded bombs.

However, the squad has not yet recovered the bombs till the time of filing this report.

Search operations conducted in Jiribam district

Police Control Room Manipur Police on Friday stated that security forces conducted house-to-house search at Jakuradhor Part-II village at about 30/40 no of houses under Borobekra PS, Jiribam District and verified around 140 persons during the operation. No untoward incident happened.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, stated a release.

It state that the movement of 232 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it mentioned.

A total of 124 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 68 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it said.

It appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room., it mentioned.

It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was under control, it added.
