Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah

The Manipur BJP president's visit came after Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reportedly canceled his flight to New Delhi earlier on Sunday.

Manipur BJP president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi on Thursday called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to brief on the prevailing situation in the state and urge to expedite the Central government’s intervention to restore peace in Manipur. 

Her visit came after Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reportedly canceled his flight to New Delhi earlier on Sunday.

Sharda Devi later shared a post on Facebook, mentioning about what transpired in the meeting with Amit Shah. 

“Met Hon'ble Home Minister, Mananiya Shri Amit Shah ji, for an extensive discussion on the current situation in Manipur. Conveyed the people's aspirations and urged immediate attention to bring permanent solution and tranquility to the state, while appreciating the ongoing efforts.

Additionally, highlighted the need for resettling IDPs and providing maximum support for smooth rehabilitation.

He assured that the Centre is aware of the delicate situation on the ground and committed to uplifting the people's aspirations,” her Facebook post read. 

As per sources, CM N Biren Singh had earlier gone to meet Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma to arrange an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. His request was reportedly declined, sources said. 

As he returned to Imphal, speculations were rife in Imphal about suspended animation of the Manipur legislative assembly and invocation of Presidents’ Rule in the state.
