In a major boost for the Manipur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 41 artistes and one social worker joined the party in the presence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday.

The artistes included actors such as Rojesh Saikhom, Uttam Mayanglangbam and RK Somorendro alias Kaiku, who was an independent candidate from the Thangmeiband assembly constituency; singer and actor Md Mujibur Rahaman; and social worker Ranjita Golmei.

“The party appreciates that a good number of artistes joined the party after witnessing the change brought about by the BJP-led government in the last five years in Manipur,” Sharda said.

The Manipur BJP president exuded confidence that her party will return to power and form a government for the next five years. In the last five years, people have become aware how a government can bring development and welfare which never happened in the last 70 years, she said.

“Before the coming of the BJP-led government in the state, instead of bringing welfare and development, youths were misled during elections and in other times over the last 70 years. The Biren-led government is the only government that has been giving emphasis to bring welfare and development for the youths,” the president said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “After witnessing the developments that were brought about in the last five years by the BJP-led government, there were issues of BJP aspiring candidates in most of the assembly constituencies. However, tensions that erupted in some assembly constituencies are being settled slowly and they are beginning to support the BJP candidates unanimously”.

Biren reiterated that the BJP’s target of winning over 40 seats included about 30 from the valley and over 10 from the hill assembly constituencies. “The BJP will form the government and rule Manipur for another five years,” he said.

If the BJP government returns, the people of Manipur will enjoy another five years of development with better law and order, he added.

Biren extended his appreciation towards the artistes who joined the BJP for supporting and strengthening the party.

The artistes included RK Somorendro alias Kaiku, who was an independent candidate for Thangmeiband assembly constituency; Rojesh Saikhom; Md Mujibur Rahaman; Uttam Mayanglangbam; social worker Ranjita Golmei and others.
