One autorickshaw driver who was found transporting suspected drugs was arrested while 30 packets of suspected brown sugar weighing 385 grams were seized from his possession on Saturday.
According to police, they received reliable information that one unknown autorickshaw driver plying between District Hospital, Churachandpur and Johar Phaicham, has been transporting suspected contraband drugs in his autorickshaw.
Accordingly, a team of Churachandpur Police Station, including inspector N Thangzamuan OC Churachandpur Police station, SI GJangkholal Kipgen along with an escort party and VDFs under the supervision of SP Churachandpur and ASP(OPS)/Churachandpur conducted checking at Koite village near Oil pump in the presence of SDM/Tuibuong, police stated.
During checking, one autorickshaw bearing registration no MN04B-1463 was stopped for checking, it stated. During checking, three black polythene bags were found under the seat of the driver, it added.
The Autorickshaw driver identified himself as one Ngamminlal Touthang, 37, son of Thanghao Touthang from T Kannanphai village, Churachandpur district.
The three black polythene bags were opened in presence of SDM/Tuibuong and a witness, and they were found to contain 30 soap cases containing 30 packets of suspected brown sugar.
The 30 plastic packets were found to weigh 385 grams including the weight of the plastic cover.
The 30 packets of suspected brown sugar weighing 385 grams, auto rickshaw bearing No. MN04B-1463, one mobile phone and one Aadhaar card in the name of Ngamminlal were seized from the spot and the individual was arrested at 5:10 pm by observing formalities.
The seized articles and the arrested person were taken to Churachandpur Police Station and a case under FIR NO.174(11)2022 CCP-PS u/s 21(c)/60(3) ND & PS Act has been registered for investigation.
