The Manipur Cabinet, during its meeting held on Friday at the Cabinet Hall of the CM’s Secretariat in Imphal, has decided to convene the Manipur Legislative Assembly from July 31, 2024.
Addressing the media at his Lamphel residence on Friday, Information and Public Relation minister Sapam Ranjan said that after the recent sitting of Manipur Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on March 5, the cabinet decided to convene the next session from July 31.
Responding to the media, the minister said the number of sittings for the session will be decided by the Business Advisory Committee of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
During the meeting which started at 10 am, 43 listed agendas and two-three unlisted agendas were addressed.
The minister said some of the agendas were deferred for further discussion however he did not mention how many agendas were deferred.
Ranjan said the state cabinet has resolved to direct the Manipur Home Department for bifurcation of manpower particularly for ministerial staff for the newly created districts of Manipur. It also directed the same department for introducing transfer and posting of village defence force (VDF) personnel across the state. He said the VDF personnel are taking a major role while maintaining law and order of the state.
The Cabinet also approved the proposal for amendment of “The Manipur Private School (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2017” and framing of “The Manipur Private School (Registration and Regulation) Rules, 2024 as well as the proposal for framing of Separate Manipur Health Service (Dental) Rules and exemption from consultation/concurrence with MPSC, he stated.
With regards to higher education, the cabinet also approved the amendment of Dhanamanjuri Act and adoption of NPS (National Pension System) for employees of Dhanamanjuri University.
Minister Ranjan also mentioned that Allotment of land to Airport Authority of India, Imphal Airport has also been approved. He further clarified that the same is not an acquisition of a new land, but a land which is already within the campus itself. He continued that allotment of land for construction of AYUSH Dispensary at 17-Chaobok Village, Lilong Sub-Division, Thoubal and construction of Court Complex of District & Session Judge, Churachandpur has also been approved.
The minister also said that some irregularities were detected during an earlier recruitment process for the directorate of Economics and Statistics . The cabinet directed the concerned department to investigate the matter in order to find out any irregularities. He said if any irregularities were found during the investigation the whole recruitment process will be withdrawn.
He then highlighted the need to strengthen Manipur Secretariat’s Records and Library Section, which was also among the agendas discussed during the Cabinet Sitting.
The state cabinet further approved for e-auction of fancy registration numbers of vehicles during registration in the VAHAN portal.
