The five-day sitting of the 5th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly came to a close on Tuesday, marked by notable absences as none of the 10 Kuki MLAs demanding separate administration were present throughout the session.

As the House refrained from making any official statement regarding the absence of the 10 MLAs, it remains unclear whether they sought leave or not, leaving a void in the proceedings.

Throughout the session, the Assembly addressed a range of issues, including solemn obituary references to 12 individuals and civilians and security personnel amid the ongoing crisis in the region.

Key highlights of the session included the presentation of the Business Advisory Committee report, submission of three committee reports, and deliberations on three short-duration discussions and one matter of public interest.

Notably, the Assembly introduced and passed eight government bills and adopted two resolutions urging for the abrogation of the SoO agreement and advocating for the implementation of the NRC.

Emphasising the gravity of the present crisis in Manipur, most agenda discussions revolved around addressing the ongoing challenges faced by the region.

In concluding the session, the Speaker extended appreciation to both treasury and opposition bench members, Assembly staff, security personnel, government employees, and media personnel for their cooperation and contribution to the smooth conduct of proceedings.

Later, the Speaker declared the fifth session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly adjourned sine-die.
It is worth noting that the absence of the 10 Kuki MLAs persists from the last Assembly Session held on August 29, 2023, which concluded in a mere 11 minutes, raising questions about their continued engagement in legislative affairs.
