Manipur: Arms and ammunition recovered in Churachandpur

Arms and ammunition were recovered in search operations and area domination conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts on Monday.

One AK - 47 Rifle with one magazine, one AK-47 (ghatak) with one magazine, one INSAS (excalibur) with one magazine from Churachandpur District. Preliminary verification indicated that the recovered arms are part of arms looted from police stations.

Police control room on Monday said that security forces conducted a poppy plantation destruction drive at Makui Hill Range under Kangpokpi PS, Kangpokpi District and destroyed about 34 acre of poppy plantations on Monday.

It stated that movement of 253 and 292 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 139 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 270 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it said.

Appeal is made to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room. Further, an appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
