Security forces recovered arms and ammunition during a cordon and search operation at Chandrakhong area in Thoubal district while four persons were arrested along with weapons from Churachandpur district, Imphal East and Imphal West districts Wednesday.
A combined team of Nongpok Sekmai Police station along with Thoubal District Police, Special CDO, 33 AR and A/182 BSF led by IG (Zone - I) including SP-Thoubal, Nongpok Sekmai Police Station team and Yairipok Police Station team. Arms were found hidden at Salam Patong area to avoid detection by security forces during the operation conducted from 2.30 am till 6 am.
The items recovered were one INSAS 5.56mm rifle, two 7.62mm SLR rifles, one 40mm lathode gun, three 9mm pistols, seven No. 36 Hand grenades, one chinese grenade, two magazines for 5.56mm INSAS light machine guns, one magazine for 5.56mm INSAS rifle, two rounds of 5.56mm INSAS ammunition, 25 7.62mm SLR magazines, one tear smoke grenade, one stun grenade, one 40mm lathode shell, three 7.62mm SLR cartridges, six 7.62mm ak-47 cartridges, six .303 Cartridges, one detonator for No. 36 Hand grenade, 13 blank cartridges, one magazine for 9mm pistol, one walkie-talkie set (HTRF) and one bulletproof jacket with plate.
About 160 houses were searched thoroughly and about 600 people verified properly. The foothills adjoining Chandrakhong i.e. Phajakhong and Salam Patong were also searched intensively.
Our Churachandpur correspondent added that a joint security team of 10th BSF, 16 Kumaon Regiment, D/193 CRPF and Manipur police seized two persons with arms and ammunition in Churachandpur district on Wednesday.
The team were conducting checks at a Motor vehicle Check Post at Teddim Road( NH-2) and one Maruti Gypsy, bearing registration number MN 07 E 0019 coming from Churachandpur towards S Kawtlian was stopped around 8:40 am, as per sources.
On checking, arms and ammunition were found from two occupants of the vehicle. The two occupants were identified as Kammin Hangsing ,29, son of Thanglam Hangshing, resident of Gamnomphai village, Kangpokpi District and Kamminsei, 23, son of Mangboi resident of Gamnomphai village ,Kangpokpi District, Manipur.
From their possession, one 7.65 mm Pistol (made in Italy) Body No.1965, 25 7.65 mm ammunition, one magazine for pistol were seized.
The Maruti Gypsy bearing No.MN07 E 0019 with two mobile phones owned by the two occupants were also seized while both were apprehended.
The apprehended persons and seized items have been handed over to Churachandpur Police Station, sources said.
Meanwhile, Kakching District Police led by ASI Jiten Singh of kakching Police Station and his team assisted by Golf-68, Golf-84 along with two lady CDO under the Supervision of Thokchom Vikramjit Singh, MPS, Superintendent of Police, Kakching district also carried out cordon and search operation at Kakching Chumnang near SBI on Wednesday.
Around 21 houses were searched and verified about 75 individuals with their respective Aadhar cards during the search which started from 6 am and continued till 7.10 am. No recovery or arrests have been made.
Meanwhile, police arrested two active members of an underground organisation from Imphal East and Imphal West districts, according to a release issued by Police Control room.
The release stated, police was able to recover arms and ammunition from the two which include one 9 mm pistol, 143 rounds of ammunition, three mobile handsets with four sim cards.
They were involved in extortion of huge amounts money from the general public, the release added.
