Manipur: Arms, ammunition recovered in Imphal West

The recovered items are one CMG with empty Magazine, one 9mm Pistol with empty magazine, 55 live rounds of 7.62 ammunition, four 36 HE grenades, one 51 mm Mortar illumination shell, one 2-inch Mortar Shell, five 32 live ammunitions and two Baofeng Radio Set.

Arms and ammunition were recovered by a combined team of security forces during a cordon and search operation conducted in the general fringes area of Imphal West, under the jurisdiction of Patsoi Police Station on Friday.

The operation, led by Inspector Kh. Sunilkumar Singh of Patsoi PS, commenced at approximately 3:30 pm on Friday. The team, comprising personnel from Patsoi PS, Mike-70 Mobile team, Sangaithel OP, Mike-48 of CDO-IW, and one column of 5/9-GR, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Ksh Shivakanta Singh rushed to the designated area following specific intelligence inputs provided by 2CT/IS Det, ECIB.

During the search operation conducted along the periphery of Sangaithel, the combined teams successfully recovered a cache of war-like stores, weapons and ammunition.

No miscreants were apprehended during the search operation, which concluded at 6.30 pm. The seized articles have been handed over to the authorities for further necessary legal action.

Meanwhile, the Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Friday stated that the situation in the state was under control during the last 24 hours.

Search operations and area dominations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, stated a release.

During the search operations, one Carbine Machine Gun with Magazine, two 9mm Pistol with magazine, two HE-36 Hand grenades, one IED (500gm) and 16 ammunition were seized from Nakhujang Village Hill Range, Kangpokpi district, it stated.

Movement of 71 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it mentioned.

It further stated that a total of 129 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley, and Police detained 156 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

It appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room. It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
