Unknown assailants on two-wheelers opened fire at Angel Hospital in Uripok, Imphal, causing bullet damage to the entrance of the hospital around 5.19 pm on Thursday. There were no casualties.
Targeting the hospital, dedicated to providing medical care to children, had caused fear and panic among the patients, staff, and locals.
The hospital staff and local women of Uripok staged a sit-in protest in front of the hospital on Friday morning, condemning the incident.
Seema Chanu, nursing in-charge of the hospital, expressed outrage over the attack, stating that it was unfortunate to target a hospital full of patients, especially children.
She urged the authorities to arrest the culprits at the earliest and deliver justice, ensuring that such incidents are not repeated in any hospital in the future.
The state police have registered an FIR and are investigating the incident to nab the culprits involved.
Meanwhile, doctors and staff of Angel Children Hospital along with the Uripok Achom Leikai Nupi Apunba Lup staged a sit-in protest on Friday at Uripok Achom Leikai in Imphal West district condemning the incident.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, president of Uripok Achom Leikai Nupi Apunba Lup Shamurailatpam Modhubala, expressed deep concern and outrage over the attack by unknown miscreants which caused panic among the hospital staff and patients.
She questioned who would bear the responsibility if any of the staff or the patients had been shot.
She also urged the responsible groups to refrain from such attacks and suggested having a dialogue among them instead of sending shockwaves to the community.
