One man was shot dead by unidentified persons at Uchol Huikap under Andro Police Station in Imphal East around 4 pm Friday, police sources said.
Police said the deceased was identified as one Sailendra Saha, 45, son of Vishwanath Saha of Bihar presently staying at a rented house at Ragailong in Imphal along with his wife and three daughters.
He worked as a mobile grocery supplier and was shot dead by unknown armed miscreants at Uchol village, located along Andro-Ngariyan road at a distance of 5 km from Andro police station in Imphal East, the police said.
According to police, Sailendra was on his way on a two-wheeler (heavy duty) when he was allegedly shot by two miscreants who came on a scooter (Activa). The deceased suffered bullet injury on the head, police said, adding he is survived by his wife and three daughters.
From the site of the incident, four empty cases of 9mm rounds as well as one live round were recovered.
On receiving the information, a team led by OC of Andro police station along with a Forensic Science Laboratory team arrived and took up inspection at the site. Police had collected the body and transported it to JNIMS mortuary. While the cause of the killing is yet to be ascertained, investigation is underway, police said.
