Man saves child from drowning in Imphal West

A two-and-half-year-old boy fell into a pond in Imphal West.

A man saved a boy child from drowning in a pond in Imphal West district, Manipur on Wednesday, sources said.

According to the sources, one Bachaspatimayum Gope Sharma was serving the people during a feast for a Phiroi ceremony at Haobam Marak in Imphal West when the child fell into the pond.

Seeing the child drowning, the man jumped into the local pond and saved the two-and-half-year-old child Khoirom Abotomba, the sources said.

The sources said the child had wandered off while his aunt was instructing the helpers who were washing the utensils required for the feast, it informed.

Moved by the heroic act of the man, the host of the Phiroi ceremony Thokchom Satyapriya Singh rewarded Gope with a traditional Lengyan Phi along with Rs 10,100, the sources added.
