Man infected with rabies dies in Imphal

A man who died of rabies was bitten by dogs on three separate occasions and was undergoing treatment at the Isolation Ward of RIMS.

A 41-year-old man died of rabies infection while undergoing treatment at the Isolation Ward of RIMS, Imphal around 3.40 pm on Saturday. He was kept restrained as he reportedly attempted to bite his wife.

According to sources, the patient, Naorem Surajkumar alias Ibomcha, 41, son of N Herabi of Keirak Keisham Leikai Kakching district was bitten by dogs on three separate occasions with the latest attack being three months ago.

He was admitted at Kakching district hospital on Wednesday and further admitted to RIMS Casualty around 9 pm on Friday, sources said. Considering his history, the doctor referred him to the Isolation Ward, it continued.

After he reportedly attempted to bite his wife who was taking care of him, he was kept restrained, it stated. He passed away around 3.40 pm, it added.
