The Additional Session Judge (Fast Track Court) Crimes Against Women on Thursday convicted a man under rape and cheating IPC section for having forced sexual act on false promise of marriage.
The culprit is identified as Chongtham Dhurbajit Singh, 28, son of Ch Shyamsunder of Nagamapal Phougeisangbam Leikai, Imphal West.
A woman had lodged a complaint with the Imphal police station stating that she had affairs with the accused since May 2013 and in the course of their relationship, the accused forcibly had sexual intercourse several times with her to the extent that she got pregnant twice. However, the accused made her abort her pregnancies twice by giving pills in the year 2015 and 2017, she said.
Despite her request to get married, the accused denied by giving some reasons and the accused eloped with another woman with the marriage fixed in 2018. Further, the victim went to the accused house but she was locked in his house and handed over to a local woman organisation. Moreover, the accused threatened to kill her for coming over to his house, the woman stated in the complaint.
The case was registered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West and it was transferred to the Session Judge, Imphal West for trial in 2020. Later, the case was again transferred to the Additional Session Judge (Fast Track Court) for Crime Against Women, Manipur and charges framed against the accused under section 376 and 417 IPC.
During the trial, the prosecution examined eight witnesses.
After framing the charge, the contents of the charge were read over to the accused to which the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed for trial.
After completing all trials and prosecution, the court convicted him under section 376 and 417 IPC.
