‘Making youths confine to sports option to fight drug menace’

Two-day cleanliness competition under the title “MLA Trophy” organised by the Citizens’ Club kicked off on Saturday.

A two-day cleanliness competition under the title “MLA Trophy”, which was organised by the Citizens’ Club prior to its 53rd Annual Sports Festival 2023, kicked off on Saturday at Soibam Leikai in Imphal East.

Altogether, four Panas (teams) namely, Wangbren, Marjing, Koubroo and Thangjing have started the cleanliness drive as a part of the competition in and around the locality.

Speaking to the media, president of Citizens’ Club, Mahendra Naorem, said that the club had launched the cleanliness competition considering the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment in maintaining a sound health and also to encourage cleanliness among the localities.

Talking about the 53rd Annual Sports Festival, he said that the main purpose is to hunt the talented and aspiring youths in the field games and sports.

Besides, making the youths confined and familiar to sports is the best option to fight the present issue of drug menace in the state, he added.

Informing that many participants of the annual sports festival have reached to the national and international level, he said it is also an initiative to pave a path for the young sport enthusiasts to their future career.

Being one of the pioneers in the field of games and sports, he highlighted the role of the club in introducing games like boxing, tug of war and rugby in Manipur.   

Also stressing on the efforts of the club in preserving and uplifting the arts and culture of Manipur, the president also informed that the sports festival will also witness pena and folk-dance presentations by experts and students.

Sharing the appreciation received from all corners on the activities of Citizens’ Club, he lastly invited the people of the state to come and witness the sports festival.
