Maintaining proper gaps in childbirth would help to make a healthy society, said advisor to chief minister (Health), Dr Sapam Ranjan during the observation of ‘World Population Day’ at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat, Imphal on Friday.
The observance was jointly organised by State Health Society, National Health Mission, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Manipur.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Ranjan said that World Population Day is observed every year with an objective to resolve issues of population such as maternal health, family planning, children's health, reproductive health and others.
He further said that maintaining proper gaps in childbirth would help in keeping the health of children and mothers in better condition. As such, parents should take advice from the physicians on the ways to keep gaps between their childbirth.
Concerning the consistent increase in COVID-19 cases, he said that despite putting many efforts to control the pandemic by the state government, most of the COVID-19 cases in the state are found to be of delta variants which are highly infectious. As the situation has become tougher, the state needs support and cooperation from every section of society.
Ranjan appealed to the people to maintain strict COVID-19 SOPs, and added that people still continue to gather unnecessarily such as going for picnic though the situation is worsening. To break the chain of this pandemic, the state is compelled to impose curfew and the public should cooperate with every step taken by the government to control the pandemic.
As a part of the programme, a mass rally was carried out giving messages on the importance of population issues. It was flagged off from the directorate of Health Services by Dr Ranjan.
Other dignitaries who attended the function were Health Services Manipur director, Dr K Rajo Singh; Family Welfare Services director, Dr Paozochin Guite; and National Health Mission Manipur, state mission director, Dr N Shyamjai as guests of honour and president respectively.
