Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 73.84 per cent voter turnout recorded in first phase polling in Churachandpur

At the end of the first phase of voting for Outer Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency in respect of Churachandpur district, 73.84 per cent votes were cast till the end of valid polling that was held at four AC segments. 

There are a total of eight Assembly Segments which went to polls on Friday from the 18th Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency which fall on the first phase of polling with other 13 AC segments to vote on April 26.

No untoward incidents were reported during the polling at Churachandpur district which includes 13 special booths for IDPs and four model polling booths with selfie stands at the model polling booth.

As per sources, a recently formed group called the Global Kuki-Zomi-Hmar Womens had boycotted the election, but the unexpected turn out of voters indicates that the people still have some expectations from the Government of India.

Unconfirmed sources also said that there are some areas in Churachandpur who did not come out to take part in the electoral process in a show of protest against the violence in the state. 

Meanwhile, polling personnel, EVMs, and security personnel started arriving at the Mini-Secretariat Campus, Tuibong from their respective polling stations.

There are a total of 289 polling booths in the district. Two special polling stations are there for I-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the district with about 517 electorates and 13 special polling stations for IDPs for II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the district with about 3,759 voters.

As many as 119 polling stations were managed exclusively by a female polling team. The district has a total of 1,83,109 voters, including 87,612 male voters, 95,492 female voters, and five third gender voters.

AC-wise poll percentage at 5 PM is 57-Henglep – 79.6 per cent, 58-Churachandpur AC – 64.35, 59-Saikot – 72.42 per cent and 60-Singhat – 79.72 per cent; 15 Special Polling Stations – 75 per cent.

Two polling personnel from each of the 18 polling stations were airlifted along with the EVMs in an IAF chopper, and the rest of the polling teams were dispatched for their designated polling stations by road.
