The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) unveiled the official election manifesto of the Indian National Congress (INC) for the Lok Sabha Election 2024 on Friday.
Titled "Nyay Patra", the 45-page document pledges to greater freedom, faster growth, more equitable development and justice for all sections of the society.
The comprehensive manifesto reflects upon key pillars such as equity, focusing on the youth, women, farmers, and workers.
It also highlighted the party's commitment to defending the Constitution, bolstering the economy, upholding federalism, strengthening national security, and preserving the environment.
Addressing a gathering at the Congress Bhawan in Imphal during the manifesto's release function, MPCC president K Meghachandra launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP government.
He criticised what he termed as the government's "callous neglect", alleging that both the state of Manipur and the country at large have witnessed a decline under their governance.
Meghachandra further raised concerns about the alleged widespread distribution of money to voters.
He particularly pointed out instances of cash being distributed to women gathered near the residences of MLAs, notably at the Chief Minister's bungalow. In response to these allegations, the INDIA Bloc has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission, he informed.
Highlighting another issue, Meghachandra pointed to the abrupt commencement of recruitment drives for state government jobs during the election period.
He argued that these actions blatantly violate the model code of conduct, yet no corrective measures have been taken.
"The funds, reportedly siphoned from public coffers, are now being used to influence voters, thereby compromising the integrity of the electoral process," Meghachandra further alleged.
The event also saw the participation of leaders from the INDIA Bloc, Manipur and the consensus INDIA Bloc candidate for the inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Prof A Bimol, who is contesting on the INC ticket.
