Setting an example, locals of Guigailong Tamenglong ward No II voluntarily donated Rs 500 from each household and blacktopped a road in a good gesture as the festival season approaches.
Speaking to the Imphal Free Press at the work site, Saul Kamei said that each family contributed a sum of Rs 500 to blacktop a distance of 1 kilometre on the ward road so that all walks of life can walk easily and celebrate festivals with great joy.
Guigailong village authority chairman Chinghomang Gangmei said that the villagers willingly contributed to repair the road. If additional funds are required, the villagers will contribute and donate again, he said.
The local men are involved in blacktopping their road. Donation Boxes were opened at the work site and any person willing to donate can put the money.
As the work continues every day, families would take turns in providing lunch as well as provide fruits and other food items for breakfast to the workers, he added.
Chairman Chinghomang Gangmei appealed to the authorities concerned to construct a town ring road at the earliest.
It may be worth mentioning that as promised by local MLA Janghemlung Panmei, the renovation of the town road from Rani Gaidinliu women market to main traffic point has been started by Hindustan Construction Company Limited.
However, the repair work for the town main road from Jadonang park is yet to start and remains dusty, causing health hazards to passersby, particularly the school students while the water pipes of PHED Tamenglong are leaking with water and further worsening the already deplorable town road.
