People of Khumbong under Imphal West district in Manipur staged a one-day sit-in-protest at Khumbong bazaar demanding the whereabouts of two missing persons, and threatened to launch intensified agitation if the government failed to meet the demands immediately.

One of the protesters, identified as Jiran Taorem, said on the sidelines of the protest that the two persons named one Y Kirankumar and Atom Samananda had gone to distribute relief materials to the people of the area on May 6, at around 11 am. Since then both have been missing, he said.

However, while tracing the call details record of them, the last location was found at an area located at Sangaithel near Khumbong, Imphal West where Kuki communities settled in majority, he added.

Jiran said after the missing of the two persons, locals along with the state police force launched a search operation in the area. However, the search team was not allowed to enter the Sangaithel area, he said, alleging there is a suspicions that some Kuki militants and Assam Rifles are hiding something from the villagers.
