Meira Paibis of Chandrakhong, Phanjakhong and other nearby Meitei villages on Tuesday staged a sit-in protest at Chandrakhong community hall condemning the deployment of para commandos in Tangkhul Khullen village from Monday midnight.

One Meira Paibi, identified as Khangembam Apanbi of Chandrakhong said that the villagers in the foothills have started taking refuge in safe places due to the deployment of para commandos by the government without any prior notice.

She further said that the displaced villagers started returning to their respective homes after peace was restored in the area since the clash broke out on May 3. But the peace was short-lived after the para commandos were deployed just 300 metres away from the Meitei villages.

She appealed to the government to remove the para commandos from the areas of Chandrakhong and Phanjakhong. She also demanded to arrest the Kuki militants instead of carrying out search operations in the valley areas.
