Locals destroy tobacco products in Imphal West

Tobacco products were set ablaze, symbolising the community's resolve to combat the menace of tobacco consumption amid the ongoing turmoil in Manipur.

In a strong display of opposition against tobacco consumption, locals predominantly women in the Heirangoithong area of Imphal West district seized and destroyed a mini truck load of tobacco products imported from Mayang-Imphal. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon.

During a routine random vehicle check conducted by the vigilant locals in connection with the ongoing unrest, the large stash of tobacco products was discovered in a TATA Magic mini-truck.

Determined to take a stand against the detrimental effects of tobacco, the locals decided to confiscate and eliminate the harmful products. 

Without hesitation, the tobacco products were set ablaze, symbolising the community's resolve to combat the menace of tobacco consumption amid the ongoing turmoil in Manipur.

Following the destruction of the goods, the driver of the mini-truck, along with the vehicle, was handed over to the local police for further necessary action.

It is noteworthy that the Manipur state government had banned tobacco products few years ago.
