Lilong police arrest vehicle lifters

A team of Lilong police recovered stolen four-wheeler vehicles on Saturday.

A team of Lilong police on Saturday recovered stolen four-wheeler vehicles from around Lilong in Thoubal district and arrested the vehicle lifters along with the miscreants involved.

A statement said that based on intel about the presence of stolen vehicle around Lilong Kaleikhong area, a team of Lilong police station led by Lilong police station officer in charge (OC) N Tikendra Meetei assisted by sub-inspector (SI) Md Abdur Rahaman under the supervision of Thoubal superintendent of police (SP) Jogeshchandra Haobijam rushed to Kaleikhong around 4.15 pm on Saturday.

The team found a four-wheeler vehicle (Hyundai i20, polar white, Asta O - MN01AS-1001) parked along NH-102 near Keleikhong crossing in a suspicious manner, it claimed. The team detained the driver of the vehicle and conducted a closer inspection of the vehicle using the PARIVAHAN website and found that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) was reportedly found to be tampered with, it continued.

It informed that the detainee was identified as Md Khamba, 36, son of Md Kabul from Mayang Imphal Bengoon, Imphal West. “On preliminary questioning, Md Khamba disclosed that he took the vehicle on mortgage from one Md Mustofa, 28, son of Abdul Salam from Santhel Awang Leikai, Kakching District on January 23 even though he was aware that the said vehicle was a stolen vehicle. He also revealed that one Md Khurshid Alam, 35, son of Md Bahaoddin from Santhel Makha Leikai, Kakching District who was a close associate of Md Mustofa have contacted him in dealing mortgage process of the said vehicle,” it stated.

It maintained that the team seized the car and the necessary important documents from Khamba’s possession by observing necessary formalities. The team also detained Md Khurshid Alam, 35, from Santhel Makha Leikai, Kakching District and seized one mobile phone with a sim card from his possession by observing formalities at 6.30 pm and arrested him from NH-102 near Lilong PS at 6.40 pm on the charged of involvement in vehicle lifting with conspiracy, it stated.

In this regards a case has been registered under FIR No. 30(04)2023 LIL-PS U/S:  379/411/420/468/471/482/34 IPC, it added.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint filed by one Md Abdul Matalip, 43, son of Md Nurumuddin from Sangaiyumpham Part I, Thoubal district about the lifting of a four-wheeler vehicle (Maruti Swift MN01AS-9855) on March 3 from near SBI office Lilong branch by one Maibam Sharukh Khan alias Sanathoi, 32, son of Md Hakim of Moijing Lamkhai, Thoubal district, the police team visited the residence of Sharukh on April 5 and recovered the vehicle, the statement also stated.

It mentioned that on further examination using the PARIVAHAN website, the team found that the engine number of the vehicle reportedly had been tampered with. It continued that on further course of enquiry, the police informed the complainant through telephonic to appear before Lilong police OC, but he neither appeared nor cooperate with the police enquiry and on April 16 the individual namely Md Abdul Matalip, 43, son of Md Nurumuddin from Sangaiyumpham Part I, Thoubal District was detained and arrested from Lilong Khunou near Lilong police station at 10 pm on the charged of possessing stolen property (motor vehicle), it added.
