Lilong Chingjao incident not communal conflict: CSOs

The unfortunate incident at Lilong Chingjao was an isolated event resulting out of personal enmity, advisor of the United Meitei Pangal Committee, Islam Makakcha said.

The United Meitei Pangal Committee, Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) and other CSOs on Tuesday condemned the unfortunate incident which occurred at Lilong Chingjao on Monday night.

The committee stated that the incident was an isolated incident and not a communal conflict.

As such they appealed to both Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities not to incite unnecessary communal tension out of the incident.

Speaking to the media at Lilong Ima Keithel in Thoubal District, advisor of the United Meitei Pangal Committee, Islam Makakcha, stated that the unfortunate incident at Lilong Chingjao was an isolated event resulting out of personal enmity.

“Such an incident during these times is highly condemnable and should not be continued in the future,” he said.

He also appealed to all social media users not to paint the incident in communal tone and create another hurdle for the people.

“Few social media users have painted a dangerous narrative which could prove disastrous. They should stop this immediately,” he said.

Meanwhile, FOCS president Th Manihar stated that all those who had evacuated their homes because of the incident had returned to their homes safely.

He also maintained that dragging the incident out of proportion on social media would only create a bigger headache for the people in Manipur.

He also appealed to authorities concerned to materialise the demands put forth by the JAC of the tragic incident.

Meanwhile representatives of MMWO and TAKDAL also strongly condemned the incident and demanded authorities concerned to apprehend and punish the culprits involved in the incident.

The CSOs appealed to the public not to incite unnecessary problems by drawing the incident in a communal tone.

He further called upon the people not to commit such acts of violence in the future.
