International Day of Democracy 2022 was observed in a programme organised by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tamenglong at PHED Colony, Duigailong Village in Tamenglong on Thursday.
A legal awareness programme was also organised on the topic, ‘Principles of Democracy’ as a part of the observation.
The programme was sponsored by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority.
The theme for International Day of Democracy, 2022 was ‘Importance of Media Freedom to Democracy, Peace and Delivering of the Sustainable Development Goals.’
Advocate AG Chingkhiugong, as a resource person, spoke on the topic, ‘Principles of Democracy’. He deliberated on democratic forms of government, importance of media freedom, human rights, participation of citizens, free and fair election, right to equality, right to freedom, justice etc.
The programme was attended by DLSA Tamenglong secretary Laishram Rina Devi, assistant engineer PHED Premson T Panmei and villagers of PHED Colony, Duigailong Village, Tamenglong.
Further, District Legal Service Authority, Senapati also observed the International Day of Democracy at District and Session Court complex under the aegis of National Legal Service Authority and Manipur State Legal Service Authority.
At the programme, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Senapati Ashem Tarunakumari Devi spoke on ‘democracy and role of judiciary’.
The programme was attended by DLSA Senapati chairman, N Keertichand; DLSA Senapati secretary, Margaret Niangsiamkim; Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kangpokpi, Ningombam Sofiarani Devi, BAR members.
