Kwakta blast case transferred to NIA

A Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) exploded at the southern side of Kwakta on the Bridge near Ward No IX around 7 pm on June 21.

The Manipur government has transferred the Kwakta blast case to National Investigation Agency (NIA) citing the alleged involvement of insurgents operating in the state and across the border.

In connection with the blast, a suo-motu case has been registered under FIR No. 635(6)2023 Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station U/s 400/121/120-B/243/326/504/506/307/427 IPC, Sec 5/3 of Explosive Substances Act & Sec 4 of PDPP Act 1984 for further investigation, said a statement issued by the police control room.

It said preliminary investigation has revealed that the vehicle came from Churachandpur side. It is pertinent to note that on June 21 around 7.10 pm a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded over one bridge located at the adjoining area of Phougakchao Ikhaiwang Leikai and Kwakta along Tiddim Road. The blast inflicted injuries to three minors.

The explosive was fitted inside one four-wheeler vehicle, a Mahindra Scorpio which was parked over the bridge by some unknown miscreants. In that, some portion of the bridge at the Western side got badly damaged by the blast.
