Three Delhi-based CSOs have demanded an urgent and decisive action from the central government in response to recent terror attacks in Manipur carried out by Kuki terrorists backed by foreign elements.
At a joint press conference organised by the Delhi Manipuri Society (DeMaS), Meitei Heritage Society, and Ningol United Progressive Initiative (NUPI) in New Delhi, several spokespersons called for immediate government intervention to protect citizens and restore peace in the conflict-ridden Manipur.
The organisations highlighted the alarming failures of the security forces, both central and state, despite having nearly 70,000 personnel deployed in the region and receiving advanced alerts about potential aerial attacks.
They questioned the lack of preemptive action to prevent the September 1 and 2 attacks, which involved simultaneous aerial bombings with high-tech military-grade drones followed by armed aggression.
The CSOs called on both the central and state governments to take decisive action against Kuki militants who have been perpetrating violence and destabilising the region.
They demanded the strict enforcement of Article 5 (x) of the Revised Ground Rules of the SoO Agreements 2011 with Kuki terror outfits, which mandates the termination of the SoO arrangement and appropriate action, including the use of force, against any group found violating the ground rules.
The representatives questioned the role of the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) in remaining silent while these violations continued with impunity.
They also emphasised the urgency of the situation, stating, “What compels the JMG to remain a mute spectator while the Kuki terror outfits have been violating the ground rules with impunity?”
Appealing to the conscience of the “nation” to recognise and respond to the plight of the Meitei community, which has faced ongoing violence and ethnic cleansing in several districts since May 3, 2024, they demanded immediate review of the security arrangements in the state, particularly calling for the controversial Assam Rifles to be replaced with a neutral force acceptable to the people and free from allegations of partisan politics.
They further called for measures to prevent violence orchestrated by foreign enemy backed Kuki terror outfits that are responsible for destabilizing India’s border state of Manipur.
They also called for protecting and promoting the integrity of Manipur, rule of law, communal harmony, and peace initiatives free from the reign of terror meted out by the Kuki terrorists.
The three Delhi-based CSO’s highlighted that the ongoing disturbance needs to be seen beyond a localized perspective of ethnic cleansing of the Meiteis and stated that the truth is that Kuki terror outfits are openly threatening India’s national security.
The central and state government must immediately take decisive actions against the foreign enemy backed Kuki terrorists on Indian soil before further damage can be inflicted, they demanded adding that the central government must respond to these threats with its full might to protect the life and property of the citizens.
