Amid the crisis that has been continuing for the last four months, Hindus in Manipur visited Govindaji and ISKCON temples to pray for peace and normalcy on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami festival on Thursday.
People from various parts of the state, especially those in the valley area, were seen coming at Govindaji Temple, Imphal and ISKCON temple, Sangaiprou, Imphal and other temples.
Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, in her Twitter handle, extended her “greetings to all on this sacred and joyous occasion of Shree Krishna Janmashtami! May Lord Krishna’s blessings fill your life with love, joy, and abundance”. (sic)
“On this day, let us remind ourselves of the teachings of Lord Krishna and propagate love and affection for all and usher in an era of peace and prosperity in Manipur,” the governor said.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh wrote on his Facebook wall, “Warm wishes and greetings to everyone on the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmastami. May lord Krishna deliver peace, harmony and prosperity to all!”
One of the Krishna devotees told the Imphal Free Press at the Govindaji temple that for the last over four months, Manipur has been witnessing violence, burning of houses, killings that have been disturbing the people across the state.
She said, Manipur is inhabited by around 35 different ethnic communities however, due to the present turmoil, the other communities that are not involved are suffering too.
“After these months of violence, even the government is not able to bring back normalcy. As a Krishna devotee, I along with my family members are coming here on this auspicious day to pray for peace and normalcy in Manipur as before”, she added.
