The Kom Union Manipur (KUM) on Wednesday stated that it is deeply saddened by the demise of Late Guru S Achon Kom of Khairentak Khuman Village, Churachandpur district, Manipur.
A release stated that he was the founder of the Kom Cultural Dance and Research Centre and recipient of many state and national awards. He was awarded with the ‘Guru’ title in the year 2005 under Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme in Kom Folk dance.
The Late Guru’s dedication of a greater part of his life toward the Kom Arts and Cultural service immensely exposed the rich Kom’s culture to the outside world, it stated.
Late Guru S Achon Kom will always be remembered and his demise is a great loss to the people of the state in general and the Kom people in particular. The Kom Union Manipur (KUM) expressed deep sorrow and grief in this sad moment and prayed to the Almighty to give strength and courage to the bereaved family, it added.
