While expressing disappointment over “the lack of progress and action on the legitimate demand of our people for separate administration is deeply troubling”, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on Wednesday said that it is looking forward to the August 17 talks between SoO groups and the Government of India to “expedite a permanent political solution for our people”.

In a release, Janghaolun Haokip, secretary of Information and Publicity, KIM said that the government has a responsibility to address the concerns and challenges faced by its citizens.

“It is with great disappointment that we must witness the continued inaction on this critical matter. Despite numerous appeals and pleas for resolution, no concrete steps have been taken to alleviate the suffering and difficulties faced by our community, especially in the wake of the pre-planned ethnic cleansing against our people,” KIM stated.

“We want to make it clear that the well-being and security of our fellow citizens are not negotiable. Therefore, the government must take immediate and effective measures to address this issue and expedite a permanent political solution for our people. The people thus look forward to the scheduled talk to be held on August 17, 2023 between Kuki SoO groups and the Government of India,” it said.

In case of any failure to grant the collective political demand of our people, the people will be left with no choice but to hold the representatives of the talk accountable for their failure to fulfil their duties and responsibilities and therefore any eventuality developing out of such shall not be the fault of the people, KIM said.

This decision has not been taken lightly, but we believe it is necessary to demonstrate the urgency of the situation and compel the government to take decisive action, Janghaolun Haokip said.
