The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on Friday condemned in the strongest term the incident wherein the modesty of two Kuki women was being outraged in Kangpokpi district.

The horrific viral video showed the women being stripped naked, paraded, and molested in full public view by a mob, stated a release issued by IP secretary of KIM Janghaolun Haokip.

Questioning what deterred CM Biren from arresting the culprits even after more than two months of the incident, it further questioned why should he (CM) feign ignorance of such atrocious acts against the hapless Kukis.

Profoundly acknowledging the humanitarian support of every fellow citizen in standing against the horrifying exploit of two women by a large mob, it said KIM particularly is grateful to the PM for calling for truth and justice for the distressed victims of the heinous crime, besides other notable politicians and public figures voicing against the crime.

It is indeed a heartwarming gesture in a time of total despair for the Kuki people, it said, adding such an abhorrent act is against any sensible human conception and the collective conscience of the people.

The release also implored upon the PM to not consider this incident of alleged rape as an isolated incident and not to decontextualise the issue but to get to the root of the violence in Manipur and deliver justice.

KIM observed it pertinent to petition the central government on what could be a concrete way forward now for the Kukis, it added.

The release maintained, it is out of question that the Kukis have unimaginably been tormented and asked how long the Kukis must wait for justice, and suffer.

To put a fact to light, the release pointed out that the recent viral video of two women is only a series of gruesome atrocities, only the tip of an iceberg.

It is as well an utter irony that COCOMI had issued a condemnation against the dreadful crime, it said, adding, "While the condemnation may hold true despite only to a certain extent, KIM is compelled to question COCOMI on how dare they condemn something which they are instigating."

"It is known to every conscientious individual that the same is the consequence of the constant support of such atrocities by COCOMI. Similarly, the call for justice made by CM Biren too is most questionable given the fact that the ethnic cleansing is happening right under his watch," the release stated.

It said, it is thus grimly intriguing and as well perturbing to why numerous other acts of violence, brutality and barbarism against the Kukis is beyond the reach of the law.

"As all relationships between the Kukis and Meiteis are broken without any trace of remnants, the only solution lies in the total separation of the two," it said, urging the central government to expedite the demand for a separate state for the Kukis so that they live as good neighbours.
