The long-awaited kidney dialysis centre was opened at district hospital, Ukhrul on Monday.
A 50-year-old male patient from Viewland Zone III of Ukhrul was the first patient to successfully undergo the treatment procedure from the centre on Monday.
With the new developments in the health sector, patients from districts who are undergoing kidney dialysis at JNIMS, RIMS and other multi-speciality centres in Imphal can now have it done at district hospital, Ukhrul, Dr Reisangmi Raikhan, CMO, Ukhrul said.
It will mitigate the hardships faced by patients from going to Imphal every time for such dialysis procedures and will help save their time and money too, he added.
Treatment will be done free of cost for all patients belonging to low-income groups, patients classified under below poverty line (BPL) or those patients who are CMHT or PMJAY health card holders.
Kidney dialysis centre at district hospitals, Ukhrul is undertaken under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP). This is the first and only such facility available in Ukhrul headquarters.
