Senior citizen cum retired advocate Khaidem Mani has appealed to the persons who kidnapped the two youth to release them safe and sound.

“It is not the way to kidnap innocent citizens and then make a demand to the government. It’s an act of terrorism”, Khaidem Mani said during a press conference held on Monday at his residence.

According to news reports, Kuki militants have demanded the release of Mark Haokip and the transfer of inmates in jail to Churachandpur but such demands cannot be given by kidnapping the innocent, he said.

Khaidem Mani also expressed that people should understand the India government’s role in the ongoing conflict. All Meitei and all Kuki are not enemies and some arrogant Kuki are used in the conflict. We should fight unitedly, he added.

“Kidnapping, beating and allegation of supporting Kuki, such unnecessary actions show division between the Meitei community. Blame game and torture within us will not show you are more powerfull and will not bring unity among us”, said Khaidem Mani, adding that not to do such action.

Don’t think that Manipur is still under territorial integrity, he said, adding that state territorial integrity is no more in the state when communities of the state are not able to roam or stay in different districts.

“It’s defecto territory. The Meitei community is unable to go to the Kuki area and the Kuki community is not allowed to go to Meitei. It shows there is no territorial integrity in the state”, he added.
