The 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, which is being celebrated all over India, was also observed in Manipur on Friday at the 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion Banquet Hall, Imphal.
On this solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Chief Minister N Biren Singh posted on X, “We pay tribute to the brave soldiers who fought valiantly and laid down their lives for our nation. May their legacy continue to inspire us to uphold the values of patriotism and unity.”
Speaking during the programme, Forest and Environment Minister Th Biswajit Singh highlighted the significance of observing Kargil Vijay Diwas stating that it is observed every year on July 26 in India to celebrate India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War for ousting Pakistani Forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops in Indian territory in 1999.
He stressed the need to respect every soldier who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of the motherland.
“It is indeed a day to be recalled where one could remember the essence of patriotism and all should have this feeling to protect themselves from others”, said the minister.
He reiterated that to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Victory, Indian Air Force’s celebration of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas - Rajat Jayanti’ at Air Force Station Sarsawa from July 12 to 26, 2024, to honor the brave soldiers involved in Operation Safed Sagar.
On this day, the 152 helicopter Unit, “The Mighty Armour of Air Force Station Sarsawa played a key role during Operation Safed Sagar.”
Biswajit also reflected on the efforts of uniformed personnel during times of crisis, expressing gratitude for their role in evacuating 60,000 displaced people. He urged citizens to safeguard the land for future generation and to co-operate in restoring peace.
As a part of the observation artists from Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal performed a patriotic song.
The observation was also attended by Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, the Security Advisor to the Manipur Government, the Director General of Police, high high-ranking civil and police officials among others.
The day was also commemorated by Assam Rifles by celebrating at Apollo ground in Tamenglong district.
The day was celebrated with an event entailed exhibition and a documentary screening.
The exhibition was a collation of significant events of the Kargil war in a chronological order with rare images and illustrations. The documentary revisited the events and the Bravehearts of the Kargil war. Over 500 students from seven schools across the Tamenglong district participated in the event and were instilled with pride by the unconditional sacrifices of the soldiers on the front lines.
In Senapati, the district administration joined the nationwide celebration at DC conference hall during which the deputy commissioner Mamoni Doley administered Kargil Vijay Diwas pledge and presented a memento to the family of Sepoy K Ashuli, a Vir Chakra awardee from Senapati.
It should be mentioned that the Kargil Vijay Diwas was also celebrated in various offices and sub-divisional blocks across the district.
Churachandpur: As part of the 25th Anniversary of the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ on Friday, the Khuga Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a wreath laying ceremony at Khuga and Singngat villages of Churachandpur district where homage was paid to the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes in the Kargil War of 1999.
At the Khuga, children from Grace Orphanage Home and Ex-Servicemen of the area participated in the event. The event started with an interactive session in which the children were educated about the historic war of Kargil and the legend of victory the nation achieved through countless valiant acts of the brave soldiers who laid down their life for the nation.
Following the interactive session, wreaths were laid at the War Memorial at the Khuga. Later, the children and ESM were shown a short movie on Kargil Vijay Diwas followed by lunch to the 40 children and 10 Ex-Servicemen who were part of the celebration.
Simultaneously at Singngat village, the Kargil Vijay diwas was observed at the COB in the presence of children from Hill Model School of Singngat where a wreath laying ceremony was held followed by an interactive session with the Children regarding the importance of Kargil Vijay Diwas. After this, refreshments were provided to a total of 30 children who attended.
The Ex-Servicemen Association of Churachandpur District and the Grace Orphanage Homes Authorities said that they appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles and expressed their gratitude towards this well thought gesture which aimed at empowering youth through national integration and patriotic measures.
