Kangmong Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup (KNCTL) on Tuesday appealed for the restoration of peace and harmony in the state at the earliest, urging the government to provide necessary support to the refugees of the ongoing clash.

As the Kangmong village is located near the hilly regions, the villagers are living in a constant fear of threats by Kuki militants. The villagers are also facing the price hike by 50 per cent, it added.

It claimed that there are many reports of refugees facing many hardships including insufficient rations, lack of proper accommodation and toll on their mental and physical health. Drawing the attention of the authorities concerned, it urged the government to take immediate actions to meet the needs of the refugees.

It condemned the representatives of a community for adding fuel to the fire amid the ongoing clash by filing a case in the Supreme Court which would create a divide among the people of the state.

“Moreover, what were the demands of the participants armed with petrol bombs at the rally in Churachandpur? And why didn’t the security personnel intervene and stop the rally before it erupted in a riot which would lead to the destruction of the houses and properties of many innocent people?” it read.

It also urged the authorities concerned to take up immediate action against the responsible officers.
