Kamjong DC launches ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ at Kasom Khullen

Kamjong is one of the 272 districts across 32 State/Union Territories that have been identified as the most vulnerable in terms of usage of drugs in the country.

Deputy Commissioner Kamjong Rangnamei Rang Peter on Tuesday launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) at the Sadbhavana Mandap of Kasom Khullen HQ in Kamjong district, Manipur.

Kamjong is one of the 272 districts across 32 State/Union Territories that have been identified as the most vulnerable in terms of usage of drugs in the country. These vulnerable districts were identified on the basis of findings from the Comprehensive National Survey and the inputs provided by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

According to the National Comprehensive Survey conducted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, there are more than 60 million drug users in the country of which a large number of users are in the age group of 10-17 years.These vulnerable districts were identified on the basis of findings from the Comprehensive National Survey and the inputs provided by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

According to the National Comprehensive Survey conducted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, there are more than 60 million drug users in the country of which a large number of users are in the age group of 10-17 years.

Speaking on the occasion, DC, Kamjiong Rangnamei Rang Peter stated that the main objective of the launch of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan is to give awareness of the dreaded and harmful effects of drugs among the general public, particularly the youth. The DC opined that the future of our new generation is in a very critical condition with the rise of the number of drug users among the youth.

The DC further stated that the biggest enemy of our youth is drug and other psychotropic substances which have eroded the social strata. The Deputy Commissioner also informed that the number of drug related deaths and crimes have increased tremendously over the last few years, which we couldn’t solely make responsible to the government and other law enforcing agencies. DC Rang Peter further stated that it is not only the parents but also the teachers and community leaders who need to take a crucial role in fighting the menace of drugs and other amongst our youth.

The Deputy Commissioner also launched the Long Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN) for prevention of mosquito-bite related diseases during the function.

Chief Medical Officer, Kamjong Dr. Lucy Duidang and District Social Welfare Officer Kamjong A Tamphasana Chanu also delivered at length about the cause and harmful effects of drug abuse.

Today’s programme was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Sub-Divisional Officer and District Malaria Officer of Kamjong along with Headman of Kasom Khullen, Students and teachers.
