The Joint Action Committee (JAC) on brutal murder of L Ronibala and her maternal family have voiced serious concerns regarding the investigation into the tragic death of the deceased.

Ronibala was found hanging at her husband’s house on December 5.

Allegations have been raised against the JNIMS authorities, accusing them of hampering the postmortem report.

It is reported that the postmortem of late Ronibala, wife of S Bidyananda of Khongman Zone II, Imphal East, was conducted at JNIMS on December 7. The official postmortem report, released on December 11, concluded that Ronibala died due to asphyxia resulting from hanging.

However, the JAC and family members contended that foul play may be involved, pointing to signs of blood clots on the head, a cracked skull, and bruises on her arms.

Late Ronibala’s sister-in-law, L (ongbi) Jamuna, claims to have witnessed the postmortem and observed these injuries.

Speaking at a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal, Maibam Purnimasi, co-convenor of the JAC, demanded a re-postmortem of Ronibala, which is currently at the JNIMS Morgue.

Purnimasi emphasised the need to ensure that the results are not compromised.

Additionally, the JAC urged the authorities to interview Ronibala’s minor son and daughter through the appropriate channels of Juvenile Care, rather than at a police station.

Purnimasi concluded by calling on all stakeholders and civil society organisations to ensure justice for the late Ronibala.
