The Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) authority issued a clarification regarding the photograph of a patient lying at the entrance of casualty, JNIMS, which was circulated widely in social media.
JNIMS medical superintendent professor T.Rajen Singh clarified in a release that the patient was having signs and symptoms of suspected COVID-19. Hence, the patient was kept isolated to prevent spread of the disease to other patients of ATC before undergoing the test which later became negative.
The release added that JNIMS authority had been taking up necessary measures for proper management and control of COVID- 19 positive cases since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the state. All the healthcare workers ,including doctors and nurses and other support staff are provided with adequate full personal protection equipment in COVID wards, sampling centre, flu clinic, ATC, operation theatre, antenatal ward, VRDL and Truenat Lab.
However, there may be instances of exhaustion of consumable items like hand sanitizers. Regular sanitization of hospital premises is done and as such there has not been a single case of COVID-19 positive among the healthcare workers contracted from the hospital, the release said.
Till date, a total of 42,627 samples have been tested at VRDL, JNIMS out of which 1,082 cases have been detected positive. As many as 464 positive cases have been admitted in COVID ward and 382 others have been discharged after their recovery as on July 31. At present,81 patients are under treatment in JNIMS COVID ward and two COVID positive patients have expired in the hospital, the release added.
