While the hospital staff was attending the patient, a woman made a request to the doctors that the patient might need oxygen. When the doctors checked the oxygen level with the help of an oximeter, her oxygen level was found to be 95/96 which is normal, he added.

The family of the patient lodged a complaint to JNIMS authority, stating that after the doctor checked the oxygen level of the patient, one person came and started using abusive words to the patient, after which the patient died due to heart failure, said Deben.

Regarding the incident, JNIMS director said that the officials of the hospital held a meeting on Thursday and decided to issue a circular that no outsiders including doctors, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacy runners will be allowed to enter the hospital without the consent of the JNIMS authority. He further said stringent legal action will be taken up against defaulters including the doctor who is attending the patient.
