JDU releases first list of 30 candidates for Manipur polls

The National People's Party (NPP) also released its second list of its candidates for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.

The Janata Dal-United (JDU) on Tuesday released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Manipur Assembly elections 2022. The party announced its candidates for 30 of the 60 seats in the Manipur Assembly in its first list.

The list circulated to the media was published by the Core Committee of JDU for the Manipur State Election 2022 and was signed by national general secretary, in-charge North East of JDU and member the core committee Afaque Ahmed Khan and convenor of North East Executive Council of JD(U) and also the chairman of the core committee Senchumo Nsn Lotha.

Many of its candidates in the list are those who joined the party recently after being denied tickets by the BJP. Surprisingly, the list did not include MLA of Tamenglong Samuel Jendai who joined the party on Monday. Jendai was reportedly scheduled to join the NPP on January 29; however, he did not turn up at the joining ceremony.

The list includes Th Arunkumar of Wangkhei, Th Brinda of Yaiskul, Kh Loken of Sagolband, Ksh Biren of Lamlai, O Nabakishor of Bishnupur, Ashab Uddin of Jiribam, LM Khaute of Churachandpur, Kh Joykishan of Thangmeiband among others.

In a reception ceremony for the newly joined members at Classic Grande in Imphal East, MP of JDU and Manipur (in-charge) RP Mandal said that its Manipur unit is getting stronger day by day with the entrance of many influential leaders in the party.

He said that with its ideology of secularism and development, JDU has become a party which is accepted and trusted by the maximum people. “Success is being ushered into JDU for the upcoming election of Manipur,” he added.

Meanwhile, the National People's Party (NPP) also released its second list of its candidates at its office located at MAYOL, Iroisemba in Imphal West. The list included 13 candidates.

With the list of the 20 candidates announced earlier on January 24, NPP had altogether announced 33 candidates for the 60 seats in the Manipur Assembly.

According to deputy chief minister Y Joykumar who is also the chairman Election Management Committee of NPP Manipur, the party will announce its third candidates list by February 3.

Earlier, he had informed that the party will at least produce 40 candidates for the 60 Assembly seats.

According to a reliable source, BJP MLAs of Wangkhei Y Erabot and BJP’s MLA of Kakching M Rameshwar who were denied the BJP ticket are likely to join the NPP very soon.
