The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) on Tuesday condemned the special secretary of Home, government of Manipur for the extension of ‘Disturbed Area’ tag in Manipur till December 1 of 2022.
In a release, AMUCO condemned the notification issued by the special secretary on December 8, 2021, which included announcement of extension of 'Disturbed Area' in the state, excluding seven assembly segments of Imphal Municipal Area. It questioned the state government if the extension of 'Disturbed Area' in the state is a sign of ‘good governance’ and ‘better law and order’ as the government claimed.

It alleged that the announcement may be another “calendar programme”, meant not for the wellbeing and protection of the public but rather for the vested interest of the government.
Stressing that being tagged as ‘Disturbed Area’ is against the wishes of the public, AMUCO questioned if the state government should be referred to as ‘government of disturbed area’.
Recalling the calamities that occurred in the state in regard to the protests against Armed Forces Special Powers Act (1958), it urged the state government to withdraw the extension of disturbed area in the state.
