IRB personnel injured in ambush near AR camp in Moreh

Numerous Kuki CSOs had been objecting to the stationing of state forces including special Police Commandos in Moreh town and surrounding areas.

A personnel of 5th IRB attached at Special Commando was injured in an attack launched by Kuki militants at a spot situated away from the 5th Assam Rifles Key Location Point (KLP) near Kondong Lairembi under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district around 3.30 pm on Saturday.  

According to police, a temporary jail is being opened at the 5th AR KLP located near the Kondong Lairembi. The jail is being guarded by the Special Commando and 5th IRB personnel posted at Moreh.

A team of Special Commando and 5th IRB moved in at noon time as a duty roster to replace the personnel who had been manning the jail earlier. The Kuki militants launched that attack at a spot away from the KLP, during which the personnel was hit by a splinter on his leg.

The injured personnel is one G Ponkhamlung (Rifleman No 17005660) of 5 IRB attached to special commando. He has been given first aid by the AR and is out of danger, as per police.
It is learnt that additional forces of special commando and IRB were sent in at the site and exchange of gunfire continued.

On October 31, an MPS officer and SDPO Moreh Chingtham Anand Kumar was killed in an attack by suspected Kuki militants while overseeing a ground clearing work for construction of a Helipad at Eastern Shine Ground, Moreh on Tuesday morning.

Consequent to the incident, state government sent reinforcement to Moreh only to get ambushed by Kuki militants in Senam village area, which left three commando personnel injured.
