IRB personnel from Samaram Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district Irengbam Rupachandra, whose house was torched by a mob on allegations of shooting and killing a youth on Tuesday, claimed his innocence regarding the incident and appealed to the locals of Heirok to not misconceive him as the killer.
At a press conference in Khangabok in Thoubal district on Wednesday, Rupchandra categorically stated that he has nothing to do with the death of Ronaldo.
About the description given by the Heirok locals of the IRB personnel who allegedly shot Ronaldo, Rupachandra said that he did not carry the said weapon on that day and did not wear the dress they described.
He carried one Multi Shell Launcher but not a gun, he said. Regarding the claims made by the people of Heirok that they are in possession of a video which reportedly shows him carrying a gun, he urged them to let him watch the said video.
He announced that if the video indeed shows him carrying a gun, then he would accept any form of punishment as deemed appropriate by the public.
He further lamented that all his family members are now suffering after the mob burnt down his house. He appealed to the people to realise the truth of his innocence and stop seeing him as the perpetrator.
He also extended his heartfelt condolences on the demise of Ronaldo.
Rupachandra’s father Irengbam Binabond expressed his sorrow at the torching of his son’s house in an act of mob justice without the people finding out the actual facts behind the death.
