District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East, under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), in collaboration with National Commission for Women (NSW), organized a one-day legal awareness programme for Women in connection with the International Women’s Week on Sunday at Phunan Ningthou Community Hall, Urup Arapati, Imphal East.
The programme was organized under the supervision of Waikhom Tonen Meitei, MJS, District and Sessions Judge, Imphal East cum chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East, and the programme was attended by Arshad Saeed Shah, MJS, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East. B Supriya Devi, advocate, Panel Lawyer, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East and I Lenibala Devi, advocate, Panel Lawyer, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West.
B Supriya Devi and I Lenibala Devi, spoke as a resource person on the topics: (i) Marriage & Divorce, (ii) Maintenance Laws, (iii) Women Right to Property (iv) Domestic and Violence, (v) Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Work Place, (vi) Maternity Benefit Act, (vii) Factories Act and (viii) Equal Remuneration Act and Women & Reproductive Health Rights respectively.
The programme was participated by about 150 Women including Coordinator and PLVs of Legal Aid Clinic Thongju and Urup Arapti Mangalleima VLF.
During the programme, the participants were made aware of the various laws relating to women and the special protection that women get under various laws in India.
