Under the aegis of the Centre for Community Initiative (CCI), the ‘International Day of Person with Disabilities (IDPS) 2023’ was held at Mercy Home, Kamdou Veng in Churachandpur under the theme ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by person with Disabilities’.
The programme was organised by CCI in collaboration with the Churachandpur District Disable Union (CDDU), Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC), Gospel Ministry for Disabilities India (GMFDI), District Social Welfare Office (DSWO), Samagra Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and was attended by parents and staff of the different NGOs and departments besides the PWDs.
The occasion witnessed speeches from the department of DSWO and SSA where they spoke on what they can do for the PWDs. Pastor Thangkhomang Vaiphei, a locomotive PWD himself, said that they are not the sons of a lesser God as they can do many things from their own capacity. He also thanked the NGOs and other government organisations for providing them with different tools and aids so that they can further their talent.
The observance also witnessed Inclusive IDPD Games for children with disabilities and prizes for the same were given away.
Source from CCI said that IDPS 2023 observance will be held all over the world on December 3, but they are holding the programme on Saturday as there are inconveniences due the December 3, 2023 being Sunday.
