Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation drive to begin

State immunisation officer, Dr Ksh Memcha disclosed plans to administer polio drops to all 3,53,000 beneficiaries across 16 districts of Manipur during the three-day campaign from March 3 to 5.

In preparation for the National Immunisation Day on March 3, the Directorate of Family Welfare Services, in conjunction with the State Health Society, NHM Manipur, convened a media sensitisation event on Tuesday in Imphal.

During the event, additional director of Family Welfare Services Dr Jambo Golmei stressed the critical need for preventive measures against polio, citing recent cases in neighbouring countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan. 

Despite India's Polio-free status since 2011, he emphasised the importance of ongoing efforts to curb the disease.

A network of 3,564 booths, manned by 712 supervisors, will facilitate the distribution of Polio drops on March 3, followed by a house-to-house campaign on March 4 and 5, she added.

Furthermore, the SIO announced the establishment of Pulse Polio Immunisation camps at relief camps, transit points, and bus stops for two days and urged relevant authorities to bolster polio surveillance measures and implored parents to ensure timely administration of polio drops to their children.
