Affected land owners in Tamenglong district of Manipur intensified the indefinite bandh call along the Imphal-Jiribam road on National Highway-37 from 4 pm Friday, demanding immediate release of pending land compensation for the double-lane road construction.
The chairman of the council from Sibilong to Phaitol and all stake holders had appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong district on January 18, 2022 for payment of compensation for the double-lane road construction from Siguilong to Phaitol village.
However, the authority concerned failed to fulfil the demand for land compensation, the protesters said.
Hence, the land and standing properties owners of the 12 villages from Siguilong to Phaitol have no other option but to enforce indefinite bandh along the NH-37 from Phaitol to Barak area, from January 27 midnight.
Several vehicles, including heavy vehicles are seen stranded along the National Highway-37 due to the imposition of indefinite bandh.
However, fire service, religious activities, telecom, unavoidable emergency and marriage activities are exempted from the purview of the bandh.
While seeking the people’s cooperation and support to the bandh, the 12-affected villages said that the villages should not be held responsible for any untoward incident taking place during the bandh.
