The Drivers Association Tamenglong and the Taxi Owners Association Tamenglong have imposed an indefinite total bandh from Sunday midnight as a mark of protest against Shivalaya Construction Company Pvt Ltd's failure to repair Tamenglong-Khongsang road.
Speaking to the Imphal Free Press, Drivers Association Tamenglong president Gaikaopou Gonmei said a joint road inspection was carried out on June 16 by the Drivers Association Tamenglong and Shivalaya Construction Company. An MoU was also signed between the Drivers Association Tamenglong and Shivalaya Construction Company in the presence of a joint forum for Transport Welfare Association Tamenglong where Shivalaya Construction company had assured to repair the worst portion of the road within three days, he said.

However, the construction company failed to repair the dilapidated road portion along Tamenglong-Khongsang road despite the assurance given, he added.
The double-lane construction of Tamenglong-Khongsang road is being engaged by Shivalaya Construction Company under the supervision of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
They said that passengers have to get down for pushing and pulling their vehicles to cross the roads which are in a dilapidated condition.
Loaded trucks take a duration of three days without food to reach from Khongsang to Tamenglong district headquarters. The negligence on the part of Shivalaya Construction Company has been witnessed by everyone, they stated.

He said a joint inspection of district administration, Drivers Association Tamenglong, Traders Association Tamenglong, Taxi Owners Association Tamenglong, and the joint forum for Transport Welfare Association Tamenglong will be carried out on Monday and further course of action will be decided on Monday, they stated.
The associations are left with no option except imposing bandh from Sunday midnight indefinitely, they said.
However, power department, fire department, water, media and emergency services would be exempted from the purview of the bandh, he mentioned.
It may be mentioned that Shivalaya Construction Company project coordinator Reddy Nagha Bhushan had assured to blacktop the Tamenglong bazar road from bazar to Khunjao old Tamenglong; however, the assurances and promises did not materialise.
